Located directly behind the Mausoleum of Emperor Sujin, the Kushiyama Tumulus is a unique keyhole-shaped burial mound dating back to the Yamato period. This 155-meter long tumulus, believed to contain a vertical stone chamber, is a rare example of a "both-ways circular mound." While the shape may not be immediately apparent, the serene atmosphere surrounded by lush forest makes it a worthwhile stop along the Yamanobe-no-Michi Trail. Visitors can walk around the entire mound, imagining its historical significance. It's easily accessible, about a 20-minute walk from Yanagimoto Station, and offers a peaceful glimpse into ancient Japan.
