Hojuzan Risshaku-ji Temple, also known as Yamadera, is a renowned Tendai Buddhist temple founded in 860 AD. Ascend the iconic 1,000-step stone staircase to reach the main hall and other historic structures, with each step said to diminish worldly desires. The temple features the "Eternal Light of the Dharma," a flame that has burned continuously for over 1,000 years. Enjoy panoramic views from the mountaintop, especially stunning during the autumn foliage season. Allow at least 2 hours for a visit, and wear comfortable shoes for the climb.
