Kitagishima Island, the largest in the Kasaka Islands, is increasingly known as the birthplace of comedian Daigo from the popular duo Chidori. The island is famous for Kitagi stone, a high-quality granite used in the construction of Osaka Castle, Meiji Jingu Shrine Bridge, and Yasukuni Shrine's grand torii gate. Don't miss the Nagashibina doll floating ceremony, a women's purification ritual with a 300-year history, held in the Oura district on the Sunday before March 3rd of the lunar calendar. You can access Kitagishima via a 35-minute high-speed boat ride (55 minutes by regular boat) from Kasaka Port (Sumiyoshi Port) or a 55-minute ferry ride from Kasaka Port (Fukoshi Port).
