Kamikura Shrine, an auxiliary shrine of Kumano Hayatama Taisha, is known for its sacred Gotobiki Rock atop the mountain. The shrine is accessible via a challenging climb up 538 steep stone steps, offering panoramic views of Shingu City and the Kumano Sea. The annual Oto Matsuri fire festival, held every February 6th, is a nationally designated Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property. Be prepared for a strenuous climb and wear appropriate footwear. Consider visiting during daylight hours for the best views and safety. Note that the stone steps can be slippery, especially on rainy days.
