Overview

Maruoka Castle, originally built in 1576 by Katsutoyo Shibata under the order of Nobunaga Oda, offers a glimpse into early castle architecture. Though only the main keep remains, its two-story, three-tiered structure is considered an important relic in castle architectural history. Note the steep stairs inside the castle. Located in Sakai City, Fukui Prefecture, it's accessible by bus from Awaraonsen or Fukui Station, or a short drive from Maruoka IC. Admission is ¥450 for adults and ¥150 for children (joint ticket for 3 facilities available).
