The Makkari River, sourced from the pristine spring water of Mount Yotei, is known as the southernmost habitat for the rare Oshorokoma char. This 22.4 km river is a popular spot for stream fishing, especially for rainbow trout. Located in Makkari Village, Hokkaido, it's easily accessible by a 40-minute bus ride from Kutchan Station. Visitors can enjoy the scenic Makkari River Park, offering close-up views of Mount Yotei and opportunities for children to play in the water and adults to fish. The river flows past the Takashi Hosokawa statue in Makkari Village before joining the Shiribetsu River near Niseko. A refreshing destination, especially during summer.
