The Ojiya Balloon Uprising in Niigata Prefecture is a spectacular event held at the Nishinaka snowfield, accessible via shuttle bus from the Shinano River Riverside Park event plaza. This festival features daytime competitive balloon flights with dozens of balloons, followed by a nighttime "Glow Balloon" event combining illuminated balloons and fireworks set to music and laser lights. While the fireworks display lasts only about 15 minutes, the illuminated balloons create a beautiful spectacle. Various events take place throughout the day, including food stalls by local vendors, snow sculpture contests, hot air balloon rides, and snow bob-sleighing. Note that events may be canceled depending on the weather.
