The Hagi Reverberatory Furnace, built in 1858, was used to melt and manufacture materials for naval vessels and firearms. Constructed with basalt and brick, the furnace features a rectangular base that gradually narrows towards the top, splitting into two chimneys reaching a height of 11.5 meters. While it wasn't fully operational, it stands as a testament to the area's industrial ambitions during the late Edo period. Located near the 7-Eleven Hagi Reverberatory Furnace Mae store, it's a 20-minute walk from Higashi-Hagi Station on the JR Sanin Main Line. It was registered as a World Heritage Site in July 2015 as part of the Sites of Japan’s Meiji Industrial Revolution.
