Shibu Onsen, a historic hot spring town in Nagano Prefecture, is known for its retro atmosphere and therapeutic waters. Legend says it was discovered by the monk Gyoki in the Nara period and later served as a retreat for warlord Takeda Shingen. Visitors can enjoy strolling through the charming streets and experiencing the unique '9 Baths Tour' (available to overnight guests), where you collect stamps on a towel while visiting each of the nine distinct hot springs. Located in Yamanouchi, Shibu Onsen is accessible by bus from Yudanaka Station on the Nagano Electric Railway. The best time to visit is during the day to explore the town and enjoy the hot springs.
