Mount Madarao, one of the five peaks of northern Shinano, offers a rewarding hiking experience with panoramic views. Although smaller than its counterparts at 1382m, its distinctive pyramidal shape makes it a scenic landmark. The summit is home to a stone shrine dedicated to the 13 Yakushi deities. The mountain is also known for the Madarao Kogen and Tangram ski resorts, making it a popular destination in winter. For hikers, the route from Madarao-no-Yu is recommended, offering a chance to relax in the onsen afterwards.
