The Kimon Yagura (Turret), located on the northeastern side of Hiji Castle, is notable for its unique design, specifically the missing corner facing the 'demon gate' (northeast). This architectural feature was intended to prevent misfortune from entering the castle. Originally part of Hiji Castle, it was moved to the Nakamura family residence during the Meiji period before being restored to its current location in 2013. This type of demon gate protection is rare in Japan, making it a valuable historical structure. Visitors can explore the interior, which houses a small museum, and appreciate the unique architecture. It's easily accessible, just a 3-minute walk from JR Yagutani Station.
