Mt. Kurinodake

Overview

Mt. Kurinodake is a plateau-like mountain located in Kagoshima Prefecture, specifically in Yusui Town, Aira District. It's known for its southwestern foothills, which mark the southern limit of naturally growing Japanese oak trees, and its hot springs. Visitors can access the mountain by car in about 15 minutes from Kurino Station. The peak stands at 1,094 meters, offering panoramic views. A popular activity is climbing the "Japan's Best Sleeper Staircase," constructed from 7,000 railroad ties, leading to an observation deck with views of Sakurajima and the surrounding Kirishima landscape. The area also features Kurinodake Onsen, including the historic Nanshu-kan, offering unique mud baths and steam baths.
