Nakao no Yu is one of Nozawa Onsen's thirteen free public bathhouses (soto-yu), located a short walk from the main village area in a quieter residential neighborhood. Known as the largest of the soto-yu, it offers a spacious bathing experience with separate hot and warm pools sourced directly from the local hot springs. The wooden structure exudes traditional charm, providing an authentic glimpse into Japanese bathing culture. Remember to bring your own toiletries and a small donation for upkeep is appreciated. Open hours vary seasonally, with earlier openings in the summer months.
