Kotohira-gu Treasure Museum

Overview

Located within the grounds of Kotohira-gu Shrine in Kotohira, Kagawa Prefecture, the Kotohira-gu Treasure Museum houses a collection of significant artifacts, including an Eleven-Faced Kannon statue, picture scrolls, and sculptures. The museum is a 40-minute walk from Kotohira Station. The museum itself, built in 1905, is a notable example of early museum architecture in Japan, blending Western and Eastern design elements. Admission is ¥800 for adults and ¥400 for high school students; admission is free for junior high school students and younger. Visitors can explore a range of historical treasures and artistic works, offering insights into the cultural and religious history of the region. Note that the museum may be temporarily closed for renovations.
