Yosui-en Garden, created in 1818 by the 10th lord of the Kishu domain, Tokugawa Harutomi, is a stunning example of a mid-Edo period feudal lord's garden. This nationally designated Place of Scenic Beauty features a circuit-style garden with a seawater pond, a unique characteristic shared by only one other garden in Japan. Highlights include the Mitsuhashi bridge, inspired by West Lake in China, and the Yosuitei pavilion. Kakitsubata irises bloom beautifully in early May. Located in Wakayama City, the garden is accessible by bus from JR Wakayama Station or Nankai Wakayamashi Station. Note that while the grounds have accessible parking, ramps, and restrooms, the garden paths are not wheelchair accessible.
