Echizen Great Buddha - Main Gate

Overview

The Echizen Great Buddha's Main Gate (Daimon) is the impressive entrance to the Seidaiji Temple in Katsuyama, Fukui. Modeled after the Nandaimon Gate of Todaiji Temple in Nara, this grand structure features imposing Nio statues and guardian lions. While the temple is relatively new, founded in 1987, the gate offers a striking introduction to the temple grounds. Visitors can easily access the site via a shuttle bus from Katsuyama Station on the Echizen Railway. Open daily from 8 AM to 5 PM, the gate provides a memorable photo opportunity and a glimpse into the temple's unique history.
