The Former Maitani Residence, located in Imai-cho, Kashihara, Nara Prefecture, is a preserved 18th-century merchant house that once belonged to a hardware and fertilizer business. Just a 10-minute walk from Yagi-nishiguchi Station on the Kintetsu Kashihara Line, this nationally designated Important Cultural Property offers free admission. Visitors can explore the main house with its traditional earthen floor (doma), kitchen (kamado), and unique features like the Kuramae Zashiki (a room in front of the storehouse). The residence provides a glimpse into the lifestyle of merchants during the Edo period. It's an excellent spot to experience the historical atmosphere of Imai-cho.
