Okata Otaki Shrine

Overview

Okata Otaki Shrine, located in Echizen City, Fukui Prefecture, is a historic site dedicated to the gods of paper. Known locally as Okamoto Jinja, the shrine features a unique architectural style with multiple layers of roofing reminiscent of mountain peaks, possibly inspired by Mount Haku. The intricate carvings adorning the shrine are also noteworthy. The shrine is easily accessible by car, with parking available nearby, and the grounds are mostly flat. Note that during winter months, the shrine may be covered with snow protection, so plan your visit accordingly to fully appreciate its exterior. The surrounding area of Awatabe is known for its Echizen soba and cultural atmosphere, making it a great place to explore.
