The Kashima Jingu Nishi no Ichi no Torii, or the West First Torii Gate of Kashima Shrine, stands in the waters of Lake Kitaura near Kashima City, Ibaraki Prefecture. As one of four torii gates oriented to the cardinal directions, this vermilion gate is the closest to the main shrine and is among the largest of its kind in Japan.
