Mount Hokkaido-Komagatake, a symbol of Onuma Quasi-National Park, is an active volcano comprised of three peaks: Kengamine (1,131m), Sawaragatake (1,113m), and Sumitamori (892m). Due to its active volcanic nature, entry restrictions are in place. Typically, from June 1st to late October, hiking is permitted up to the Horseback Ridge at about 900m elevation. A parking area is located at the 6th station, and the Horseback Ridge is about a 1 to 1.5-hour walk away. Be sure to fill out the entry form provided. Before entering, check the volcanic activity status on the Hakodate Local Meteorological Observatory or Mori Town Hall website.
