While access to the island is restricted, it can be viewed from various vantage points, including the Shukutsu Observatory and Cape Etomo Observatory. The island is a symbol of Muroran and is featured as one of the Muroran Eight Views, specifically "Daikokujima Island with Black Lilies." It's also known as Olson Island, named after a sailor from the British ship Providence who was buried there in 1796.
