The Komon Sakura is a single cherry tree in Sōsa, Chiba, planted in 1699 to commemorate Mito Kōmon's visit to Iitaka Temple the previous year. It's the only surviving tree from a row of cherry and pine trees planted along the road to the temple. This Yama-zakura blooms about a week later than Somei Yoshino cherry trees, typically around April 10th. The tree is located at 2088-4 Iitaka, Sōsa, Chiba, accessible by bus from Yokaichiba Station (12 minutes to Odaka stop, then 3 minutes walk) or by car (25 minutes from Yokoshibahikari I.C.). Visit during the day to appreciate the blossoms and surrounding scenery.
