The Kokubun-ji Kondo (Main Hall) in Hofu, Yamaguchi, is part of the Suo Kokubun-ji Temple, originally established in 741 AD by Emperor Shomu. The current hall was rebuilt in 1779 by Lord Mori Shigehiro of the Choshu Domain and is a significant example of late Edo period Buddhist architecture. Excavations confirm that the hall has been continuously rebuilt on its original Nara period foundation. Visitors can still see the original foundation stones used in the current structure. Located a 6-minute drive from Hofu Station on the JR Sanyo Main Line, the temple offers a serene atmosphere and a glimpse into Japan's rich history.
