Discover Yama no Yu, the oldest public bathhouse in Yuzawa, Echigo. This quaint bathhouse, rumored to have been frequented by author Yasunari Kawabata during his writing of "Snow Country," offers an intimate bathing experience with a single indoor bath fed by free-flowing hot spring water. Located a 20-minute walk from JR Echigo-Yuzawa Station or a 10-minute drive from the Yuzawa Interchange, it's a must-visit for those seeking an authentic onsen experience. Note that it can get crowded, and there are no showers, only hot and cold water taps. Open all day, it provides a simple yet deeply relaxing escape.
Yumoto Public Bath "Yama no Yu" is located near the inn where Yasunari Kawabata wrote the novel "Snow Country," and it is said that Kawabata himself used the bath. The small bathtub can only accommodate 5 to 6 people, but the atmosphere is excellent. * Please refrain from using the bath if you are feeling unwell. * Please be sure to wear a mask when entering. * Please be sure to disinfect your hands when entering and leaving. * Please avoid times when congestion is expected as much as possible, and cooperate in using the bath at staggered times. * The number of people may be limited if there is a risk of "crowding."
