Kozenji Temple, located in Matsumae, is a historic temple founded in 1575. Known for its beautiful garden created in the mid-19th century, the temple features the remarkable 300-year-old Kechimyaku Zakura cherry tree. The temple is also dedicated to the children and wives of the 10th and 11th lords of the Matsumae clan. Visitors can enjoy the serene atmosphere and explore the temple grounds, easily accessible via a 10-minute walk from Matsushiro bus stop. The best time to visit is during the cherry blossom season to witness the Kechimyaku Zakura in full bloom. The temple also houses notable structures like the Niomon gate built in 1760 and the Sanmon gate built in 1847.
