Shitamachi Bridge

Overview

Shitamachi Bridge, completed in 1906, is one of the stone bridges remaining in Yumae. Although currently closed to traffic, this bridge harmonizes beautifully with the surrounding natural environment, offering picturesque views in every season. Located in Kumamoto Prefecture, it's accessible by car from Hitoyoshi IC (50 minutes) or by train to Yumae Station (5 minutes). While some visitors note that the bridge could benefit from better maintenance to enhance its visibility, it remains a valuable cultural asset worth a visit to appreciate its historical charm and scenic surroundings.
