The Matsu Masao Memorial Hall in Sobetsu, Hokkaido, commemorates Masao Matsu's lifelong observation and documentation of the eruptions that formed Showa Shinzan, Usu Shinzan and Meiji Shinzan. Located in Showa Shinzan, Usu District, the museum is a 20-minute drive from Date-Mombetsu Station. Visitors can view Matsu's detailed sketches, photographs, and the famous Mimatsu Diagram, which charts the growth of Showa Shinzan. The museum provides a unique insight into the volcanic activity of the region and the dedication of one man to understanding it. Open to visitors of all ages, admission is ¥300 for adults, ¥250 for junior high and elementary school students. Group discounts are available for parties of 20 or more.
