The Former Honma Family Residence in Sakata, Yamagata, is a unique architectural blend of samurai and merchant styles. Built in 1768, this historical site once served as an official lodging for government inspectors and was later home to the wealthy Honma family. Visitors can explore the well-preserved interiors (photography prohibited) and admire the impressive main gate and surrounding gardens. Located at 12-13 Nibancho, Sakata, it's a 10-minute bus ride from Sakata Station. Admission is ¥800 (joint ticket with Honma Museum available).
