Butsumokuji Temple, the 42nd temple on the Shikoku Pilgrimage, belongs to the Omuro school of Shingon Buddhism and has its main temple in Kyoto's Ninna-ji. The temple grounds feature a distinctive arrangement of structures including a mountain gate, main hall, thatched-roof bell tower, Fudo hall, Shinmei shrine, Prince Shotoku hall, and new Daishi hall. The seated statue of Dainichi Nyorai and the seated statue of Kobo Daishi in the main hall are designated prefectural cultural properties. The temple is also known as "O-Dainichi," named after its principal deity. Located in Uwajima, Ehime Prefecture, it is accessible by bus from Iyo-Miyanoshita Station and by car from Mima IC. The temple was founded in 807 and is known for its unique architecture and serene atmosphere.
