Saimyoji Temple's Horai Garden, located in Kora Town, Shiga Prefecture, is a nationally designated Place of Scenic Beauty. This enchanting garden incorporates the surrounding mountains, featuring stone arrangements named after Yakushi Nyorai, Nikko Bosatsu, and the Twelve Divine Generals, which narrate the temple's history. While past disasters have altered the garden's appearance, many elements from the Kamakura period remain. Visitors can enjoy the vibrant contrast of red maple leaves and moss during the autumn foliage season. The garden, originally designed for viewing from a seated position, now offers a charming strolling experience thanks to later additions of garden paths. Admission is ¥600 for adults, with group discounts available for parties of 30 or more. The garden is accessible by bus (20 minutes) or car (25 minutes) from Kawase Station, and is a short drive from Hikone IC and Koto Sanzan Smart IC.
