Sakurayama Shrine, located on the former site of Morioka Castle's Ninomaru, is a significant cultural and spiritual site in Morioka. Founded in 1749 as the guardian shrine of the Nanbu clan, it houses a nationally designated Important Cultural Property: a sword crafted by Kuninaga from the early Nanbokucho period. The shrine is known for its grand festival from May 25th to 27th, featuring a procession of mikoshi (portable shrines) led by mounted samurai through the city. Don't miss the Eboshi Rock, a large stone within the grounds considered a power spot. The shrine is easily accessible by bus from Morioka Station. Open from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, it offers a serene glimpse into local history and traditions.
