Suga Shrine in Ogi City, Saga Prefecture, is a historic site established in 803, with a relocated spirit from Kyoto's Gion Shrine. Formerly known as Gion Shrine, it's known for its steep 153-step staircase leading to the main hall, offering panoramic views of Ogi City and the surrounding Saga Plain. The shrine is located near the Murataka Main Store, famous for Ogi Yokan, and the base of the staircase is marked by a red bridge over the Gion River. While the climb can be challenging, the vista from the top is rewarding, and an alternate, less steep path is available for descent. Visit during the day to fully appreciate the views and the surrounding scenery.
