Sakuramoto-bo is a historic temple in Yoshino, founded by Emperor Tenmu and deeply connected to Shugendo, a syncretic religion combining Shinto and Buddhism. As one of the five Goji-in of Kinpusenji Temple, it serves as a training ground for Shugendo practitioners. The temple features notable cultural properties, including a statue of En no Gyoja (the founder of Shugendo) and a seated statue of Shaka Nyorai. Visitors can explore the temple's grounds, view cherry blossoms (especially beautiful in early April), and even experience activities like sutra copying and meditation with advance booking. The temple also offers lodging. Don't miss the red Nio statues at the gate and the unique pagoda within the grounds.
