Explore the Narusawa Ice Cave, a designated natural monument formed by lava flows over 1100 years ago. Located in the Aokigahara Forest near Mount Fuji, this cave maintains a cool temperature year-round, often near freezing, and once served as a natural refrigerator. Descend into the 153-meter-long cave to see ice formations, though the best viewing is typically in spring (April-May) when ice is most abundant. Be prepared for low ceilings (some under 1 meter), steep and slippery stairs, and uneven terrain; comfortable shoes and outerwear are recommended. The cave can be explored in about 15 minutes, and a visit can be combined with the nearby Fugaku Wind Cave for a fuller experience. Open to visitors of most ages, but may be challenging for those with mobility issues.
