The Former Konpira Grand Theater, also known as Kanamaru-za, is Japan's oldest existing kabuki theater, dating back to 1835. Located a short walk from Kotohira Station and near the entrance to Kotohira Park, this beautifully preserved two-story wooden structure offers a glimpse into Edo-period entertainment. Visitors can explore the stage with its revolving platform and trapdoors, the understage "hell," and the audience seating. The theater is open for tours, and performances are held in April. Wheelchair-accessible restrooms are available.
