Lake Poroto

Overview

Lake Poroto, located a short walk from Shiraoi Station, is a serene lake surrounded by a primeval forest of Nara, maple, and birch trees. Visitors can enjoy cycling and camping in the summer, and ice skating and smelt fishing in the winter. The lake is also adjacent to the Upopoy National Ainu Museum and Park, offering beautiful views and cultural experiences. A 6km walking trail around the lake provides opportunities to immerse yourself in nature. The best time to visit is during the early spring to see the Mizubasho flowers, or during late October for the autumn foliage.
