Suwa Shrine, the main guardian shrine of Nagasaki, is located on the northeastern side of Nagasaki, occupying the entire Tamazono Mountain. Known locally as "Osuwa-san," it was founded in 1625. The shrine is famous for the Nagasaki Kunchi Festival, one of Japan's three major festivals, held annually from October 7-9. Visitors should be prepared to climb a significant number of stone steps to reach the main hall, although parking is available near the top. The shrine offers stunning views of Nagasaki city and features unique komainu (guardian dog) statues with various spiritual properties.
