Nakatsu Castle (Okudaira Family Historical Museum)

Overview

Nakatsu Castle, also known as the "Castle of Fans" due to its unique shape, was originally built by Kuroda Kanbei. The current castle tower, reconstructed in 1964, houses a museum showcasing artifacts of the Okudaira family, the castle's last feudal lords. Visitors can explore exhibits of clothing, swords, armor, and historical documents. The surrounding area retains the charm of a former castle town, with preserved earthen walls and traditional architecture in neighborhoods like Kanaya-cho and Nakamachi. Located a 15-minute walk from JR Nakatsu Station, the castle offers a glimpse into local history and scenic views.
