The Tsugaru Kokeshi Museum, located in Kuroishi, Aomori Prefecture, is a must-visit for kokeshi doll enthusiasts. Just a short trip towards Hakkoda Mountain from Kuroishi, the museum showcases a vast collection of kokeshi dolls, including Japan's largest jumbo kokeshi. Visitors can explore exhibits detailing the history and regional variations of these traditional dolls. The first floor features a free viewing area with kokeshi goods and souvenirs, along with live kokeshi-making demonstrations. For a small fee, the second floor offers an extensive display of different kokeshi styles and historical information. Conveniently located as a rest stop between Hirosaki and Towada, it also offers hands-on painting experiences. Note that public transportation is limited.
