The Irohazaka Winding Road connects Nikko's inner sanctum with Okunikko, featuring two separate routes: the Second Irohazaka for uphill traffic and the First Irohazaka for downhill. Historically a path for pilgrims to Mount Nantai and Chuzenji Temple, it was once off-limits to women and livestock. Known for its 48 curves, the road offers scenic drives, especially during autumn when the foliage is vibrant. Be mindful of the varying road conditions and traffic, especially during peak seasons. The best time to visit is during the week to avoid traffic.
