The Sanno Club in Sakata, Yamagata, is a beautifully preserved former ryotei (traditional Japanese restaurant) dating back to 1895. Now a registered tangible cultural property, it offers visitors a glimpse into Sakata's rich history and culture, particularly its prosperous era as a port for the Kitamae ships. A highlight is the stunning display of "Kasafuku," elaborate hanging decorations unique to Sakata, symbolizing wishes for family health and prosperity. The building itself is a masterpiece of traditional architecture, featuring unique designs in each room. Located a 10-minute taxi ride from JR Sakata Station, the Sanno Club is open from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM (closed Tuesdays from December to February, and December 29th to January 3rd).
