Located in the east exit plaza of JR Kurume Station, the Karakuri Taiko Clock is a symbolic monument commemorating Tanaka Hisashige, also known as Karakuri Giemon, a local inventor and the founder of Toshiba. The clock features a taiko drum design and showcases automated performances with music and figures every 30 minutes from 8 AM to 7 PM. The performances include music by artists with ties to Kurume, such as Seiko Matsuda and The Checkers. It's a great spot to see while waiting for your train or exploring the area, and other monuments like the birthplace of tonkotsu ramen and a giant tire are nearby.
