Overview

Eigenji Temple, located upstream of the Aichi River in Higashiomi, Shiga Prefecture, is the head temple of the Eigenji branch of the Rinzai sect and a renowned destination for autumn foliage. The temple grounds feature various halls scattered amidst a serene Zen atmosphere. Visitors can enjoy the vibrant autumn colors, especially around the main gate and along the path from Shirakasa Slope to the temple's rear. The temple is accessible by bus from Yokaichi Station, followed by a 15-minute walk, or a 20-minute drive from Yokaichi IC. The temple offers a tranquil escape with beautiful scenery, though some walking on stone steps is required. Consider visiting during the peak foliage season for the best experience.
