Kokuwakura Shrine

Overview

Located a 10-minute walk from Iwaki Station, Kokuwakura Shrine is a historical sanctuary founded in 806. Once the main guardian shrine for the Iwaki region, it enshrines Ukamitama no Mikoto, a deity of agriculture and abundant harvests. The shrine is situated atop a small hill, accessed by stone steps, and features a dignified main hall along with several smaller shrines within its grounds, including Yasaka Shrine and Tenmangu. Visitors can enjoy a peaceful atmosphere and appreciate the traditional architecture. The shrine is known for its serene environment and is a place of local worship rather than a major tourist spot.
