Okama Crater Lake, a symbol of the Zao mountain range, is an active volcanic lake known for its stunning, ever-changing colors due to sunlight reflecting off its sulfurous waters. Located in Kawasaki, Miyagi Prefecture, it's accessible by bus from Shiroishi Station on the Tohoku Main Line (100 minutes) or by car from the Miyagi Kawasaki IC on the Yamagata Expressway (40 minutes). The lake spans 9 hectares and offers breathtaking views from various angles around the observation points. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes for walking on the rocky paths and bring layers, as the mountaintop can be significantly cooler than the base. Parking is available.
