Tokoji Temple, located on Honjima Island in Marugame, Kagawa Prefecture, is a serene and historically significant site. The temple is home to a remarkable principal image of Yakushi Nyorai, a masterpiece of Fujiwara sculpture adorned with lacquer and gold leaf, designated as a National Important Cultural Property. While slightly removed from the main tourist area, it's accessible via a 35-minute ferry ride to Honjima Port followed by a 15-minute walk. Note that the temple gate is currently supported due to deterioration, restricting access to the grounds. Best to visit during the afternoon for a peaceful experience.
