Daiganji Temple, officially known as Kaikizan Hokoin Daiganji, is a Shingon Buddhist temple of the Koyasan sect and one of Japan's three great Benzaiten temples. Located a short 15-minute walk from Miyajima Pier, it's easily accessible and a must-see after visiting Itsukushima Shrine. The temple enshrines Itsukushima Benzaiten, moved here during the Meiji period's separation of Shinto and Buddhism. Daiganji houses numerous Kamakura period Buddhist statues and once managed the construction and repair of shrines on Miyajima Island, including Itsukushima Shrine.
