Iitaka-dera Temple, also known as the Iitaka Danrin Site, is a historic temple in Sōsa, Chiba, that once served as the oldest and largest seminary for the Nichiren sect of Buddhism. Founded in 1580, it flourished until 1874 and is considered the predecessor to modern-day Rissho University. Visitors can explore nationally designated Important Cultural Properties like the main hall, bell tower, drum tower, and main gate, as well as the serene grounds with towering cedar trees, a designated Chiba Prefecture Historic Site. Located a 12-minute bus ride from JR Yokaichiba Station, the temple offers a tranquil glimpse into Japan's educational and religious past. The best time to visit is during the spring to see the Koumonzakura cherry blossoms planted by Mito Mitsukuni.
