Mount Nekomagatake, located in Bandai and Kitashiobara, Fukushima, offers stunning natural beauty and hiking opportunities. As part of the outer rim of the Okunuma caldera, it features the expansive Okunuma marsh, famous for its Nikko daylily blooms in early summer. Legend says the mountain is named after either a cat deity enshrined to ward off mice or a mythical cat. Hike the "Nishi-do" trail, once a pilgrimage route, and discover the "Cat Stone" near the summit. Accessible via the Ban-etsu Expressway and a 30-minute drive from the Bandai-machi Eki-Higashiguchi, the mountain provides a memorable outdoor experience. Note that the Happodai parking area, the starting point for many hikes, has public restrooms but is closed in winter.
