Explore the Mausoleum of Emperor Tenmu and Empress Jito, also known as Hinokuma no Ouchi no Misasagi, an octagonal, five-tiered tomb located in Asuka, Nara. This historical site, accessible via a 15-minute walk from Asuka Station, is believed to house the remains of Emperor Tenmu and Empress Jito. According to historical records, the stone chamber once contained elaborate artifacts, including a vermilion coffin for Emperor Tenmu and a silver urn for Empress Jito, who was the first emperor cremated.
